Project 180

I had a post a few weeks ago talking about some of my friends that are in a Christian rock band, Stem The Tide. They played, over the summer, at Texas Star Ranch in Weatherford for a local church youth group. The goal was to minister to as many youth as possible. The last concert they had over 150 youth and sponsers at the event! How amazing is that?!! God is good. Here’s my favorite pics of the band that I did over the summer concert series:

Dave Koenig: Lead Singer, Guitar  Dave Koenig

Heather Koenig: Vocalist, Guitar Heather Koenig

Scott Buck: Drums Scott Buck

Nathan Early: Vocalist, Bass Guitar Nathan Early

Tristan Hurley: Lead Guitar Tristan Hurley

Breakfast Taco Friday!

Posted in Uncategorized on August 21, 2009 by Rena

Okay…so this is how it goes:

Rick, my boss, thinks he’s better at practically anything than any other person! We have a deli in our building and she has frozed breakfast tacos for sale and he told her that they were terrible. She told him that if he wanted to fix something better then bring it on…so he did. Give him a challenge or bet and he’ll do it! Last Friday was the first installment of ‘Breakfast Taco Friday’ and guess what today is…part 2! Here’s a guy I work with getting ready!! Breakfast Taco Friday The tacos were okay…not my favorite seeing as I don’t do meat or eggs, but overall good! Today he had home made salsa, I think that made them even better.

Farmer’s Market fun!

So once again it’s a post of mix-matched topics but that’s how I do it! Two weeks ago my friend took  me to the Farmer’s Market that’s only a mile away, mind you in all the three years I’ve lived here I never knew about it, and got some yummy food!! Booth Candied Onions And this is what I brought home: Too bad the tamales are covered!I’ve been seeing some people in blogosphere making their own laundry detergent and I was curious so I did it!! Here’s the recipe I found…and it smells so yummy! 1 bar Fels Naptha (I used Ivory), 1 1/2 cup Washing Soda (not easy to find), 1 1/2 Borax; you have to grate the bar of soap but when you mix them all up it’s amazing! The cost is roughly $0.06/load, that’s amazing!! My soap!Last Friday I went for a much needed walk with a friend of mine with our dogs, not sure if it was a good idea b/c it was so hot but did it anyway! Lord knows I needed it but my poor babies were beat, they were so tired. Killer, my boy who’s 6, was so wore out halfway home he pulled me over under a tree and just layed down! Stubborn just like his momma. My baby KillerLast night the hubbs wanted to take me to a special place, I love popcorn and it was supposed to be a treat night; needless to say he got twice as much as I did! It’s in Arlington, it’s called Popcorn Stop www.popcorn-stop.com and they have tons of flavors to choose from. I got cheese, blue coconut, and cotton candy (YUM)! I hate saying this but I’m almost out less than a day later. Buckets-o-candy The goodsOne last item up for bragging…sorry I had too b/c I’m so proud! I made some make-up pad removers last night. I read about this somewhere a few weeks ago and wanted to give it a try. I went to Joann’s for some fabric and found the pretty green in the remnant pile (50% off), it was meant to be! Make-up remover pad I love the top one!

(On a more ‘baby’ note, the hubbs and I came to an agreement last night: after he gets back from his work trip in January we can start the process for our first IUI. And if that doesn’t work then we’ll save for the IVF. It may seem like a small step but trust me ladies, this is HUGE for him…like pulling teeth!)

I’ve been really busy lately and been slacking on so many ‘life’ things that I don’t know where to turn some days. I have a full day planned tomorrow, a good friend of ours is getting married and he asked me to do their photos. Of course I said yes but wow I’m going to be busy allll day long. I have so much to talk about but of course I don’t have time to post it all!! I have a ton of pics to share (vacay to Galveston, 4th trip to OK, anniversary pics, and more mindless crap that I keep putting off).

I’ve been such a slacker for the past couple of months, I just didn’t want to do anything. I shut myself off from the world and I feel like it was much needed. I finally logged into my cyster’s acct yesterday (it had been about 4 months), and a couple of the gals in there emailed me to check up…so sweet! I was just a big ole’ ball of fire yesterday, no reason but that I could be.

Last night I accomplished so many things: 1. Fixed my thrift store find dress that was missing a button on the sleeve (finally wore it 3 months later) 2. Shortened the straps on my new nightgown that was way slouchy 3. Made a slipcover for my heating pad (the original one had gross stains all over it) 4. Finally got to my mound of laundry, about 80% complete 5. (drum roll please) made a pair of yoga pants from a tshirt that was way too big! Yoga Pants I ordered a shirt and had the print put on there a couple of years ago, when they sent it…they decided that I needed 2 sizes larger than what I had asked for. Needless to say I never wore it and it’s been sitting in my closet ever since! I found a tutorial over at www.cutoutandkeep.net and tried it with Heather and then last night I did some for myself…and I love em’!! Here’s a close up of the print on the tshirt: <3 Last week I also made some pin cushions from mason jars…another tutorial I found online. Mine didn’t turn out quite the way I intended them to but still cute! Pin Cushion Leah’s bday dinner was at the Melting Pot…so yummy! Here’s us after we were filled up to the rim. Cutest thing ever!

My dear friend called me this morning and said,”Faith and I were in your bathroom last night and she said she smelt you”. I thought that was really cute that my 2yr old God-daughter knows my scent. I have always used the same perfume and hair products…funny how she can recognize it, it made me feel special.

Gabe knocked 2 1/2 things off the honey-do list yesterday. We originally had a terrible mailbox that wobbled everytime you looked at it, so now it’s beautiful!! Pretty New Mailbox

I had also been bugging him about wanting a tire swing, well guess what…I got one! We had some extra tires in the garage but they were just collecting dust, it’s still hanging in the garage but hopefully it’ll go out to the magnolia out back. And finally he’s halfway through putting up a new shelf/rod in my utility room. My mother has a rod over her dryer that holds hangers so that when you take clothes out of the dryer, you put them on hangers right then. It worked out great when I lived there. Now all my clothes get stacked up in piles and takes me weeks to actually put them in the closet. I’m excited…I need to put more things on the honey-do list!

Finally :)

The pool is 95% completely cleaned…it seemed as if it took forever! Well, it actually took longer to open than than the last couple of summers but well worth it! The Pool

This coming weekend will be packed of stress, well I make everything stressful but we should at least have some fun! We’re going to OK to visit some friends that we haven’t seen in a couple of months…my favorite little red-head. Emarie

VBS is over ;) Check out my lighthouse: The Paper Lighthouse

As for IF world, the hubbs is leaving for a few months later on this year and I think after he’s back I want to start back up. I guess I was just too stressed out and getting worked up for nothing. The bad thing is, is that a friend of mine has gotten pregnant, had that baby, and is pregnant again since we’ve been on the meds. That’s really messed up and it really messes with my mind! It’s so hard to not have jealousy feelings towards them but it comes out of nowhere sometimes. Working through these crazy emotions has proved to be the hardest thing I have ever had to face. I think when he gets back my body should be ready to go and my emotions replenished. If you pray for anything, pray for that. It overwhelms me, and I can barely control it.

My latest obsession:

It’s so bad but such a guilty pleasure…I love this show, True Blood. We have Netflix and I heard about this show being pretty good so I ordered the first season last week. I’m already on episode 8! How terrible is that? That’s all I got today…I have a busy night! Sookie & Bill

EDIT 6/30/09: Completely finished with Season 1 and caught up on Season 2. I love it and soooo want Sookie & Bill to make it!

Why does Wednesday feel like Monday?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on June 24, 2009 by Rena

Yum!So I’m a vegetarian and have been for quite some time now (4 1/2 yrs) and I have found so many things I love and on the other side I know what not to eat! Morning Star Farms does it okay, some of their things aren’t so good while others are just blah…well I gave in and bought the Buffalo Wings (they’re fake of course) and wow, so good! I paired them with a roll, so Chik-fil-a can eat that! That’s just my proud moment.

What should I name her?The pool is almost there, trying to get Gabe to work on it more but I’ve learned that if you push too much they do less. Over time you learn what buttons to push to get him to do more. I have a honey do list but he totally surprised me on Monday…he bought me a new fridge!! So I guess I have to back off a little bit, but when the newness wears off (I don’t think that’ll ever happen) I’ll start after him again. I love it but waiting for it to get here is killing me!

I have two funny stories…don’t kill me Erin!

1. We have VBS this week at my church and I, along with another, are doing crafts for the 3, 4, & 5 yrs olds. One of my little darlings is 4, mind you she’s 4 going on 30, and wiser than some women my age. She was rambling as she was coloring and all I caught was, “Jon and Kate aren’t staying together”…I dropped dead in my tracks and asked her where she heard that. She said, “my mom told me, Jon and Kate don’t love each other anymore and they’re not going to live together anymore.” I love this little girl, she is so smart but even more, her mother had to tell her something and I think she hit the nail on the head!

2. Gabe and I were on our way home from getting shakes last night and he told me he saw a movie yesterday afternoon and it made him cry! I couldn’t believe it b/c the saddest movie I’ve ever seen with him was ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas’ and he didn’t cry then. So I asked him what it was and (are you ready) he said ‘Bolt’. I died laughing, maybe I offended him but Bolt? I love that man. He said it was especially sad b/c the dog was looking for his girl that didn’t love him anymore. So he let the doggies in last night, mind you he rarely does this.
